Attendance
Good attendance at school is essential for children to feel safe, to support their emotional development, help them make and maintain friendships and for them to achieve well.
Authorised and Unauthorised Absence
If a child is absent, the school must be informed of the reason on the first day of absence. This can be done by emailing the office (office@woodstonprimary.org) or leaving a message on the absence line (01733562784) . If we have not heard by 9:30 am we will telephone home and it maybe that a home visit will be undertaken.
It is the Headteacher’s decision on whether an absence is authorised; proof of appointments will always be requested.
If your child arrives after 8:50am they will be marked as late. The registers are kept open until 9:10am, after this time children are recorded as having an authorised absence from school. This affects overall attendance percentages.
If your child becomes ill at school we will inform you immediately via the contact details you have provided. Please ensure these are kept up to date via the MCAS app.
If your child has been vomiting or had diarrhoea, they need to be kept off school for 48 hours AFTER the last sickness or bout of diarrhoea.
Leave of Absence
We follow the Peterborough City Council Policy: Promoting Good School Attendance.
'Taking leave of absence without exceptional circumstances in term time will affect your child's schooling as much as any other absence and we expect parents to help us by not taking children away in school time. Remember that any savings you may make by taking a holiday in school times are offset by the cost of your child's education.
There is NO automatic entitlement in law to time off in school time, to go on holiday.
All applications for leave of absence must be made in advance. In making a decision about whether to authorise this leave, the school will consider the circumstances of each application individually, including any previous pattern of absence.
It is important that you understand that we will ONLY authorise such absence in EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES.
Any period of leave taken without the agreement of the school (with at least four week's notice) and /or different from that agreed by the school, will be classed as unauthorised and may attract sanctions such as a penalty notice'
